Ex-education official seeks Wyoming's at-large U.S. House position

Jillian Barrow Runs for Congress in Wyoming

Former Wyoming Superintendent of Public Instruction Jillian Barrow has announced her candidacy for Congress, aiming to succeed U.S. Rep. Harriet Hageman in the state’s expansive district.

“Wyoming deserves a representative who understands our way of life and fights for it every day in Washington,” Barrow stated in a press release. She emphasized her goals of protecting the state’s energy economy, safeguarding constitutional freedoms, and ensuring that rural communities’ voices are heard.

This race opens up following Hageman’s announcement that she will run for the Senate after Republican Sen. Cynthia Lummis revealed she wouldn’t seek reelection.

Barrow praised Lummis and Hageman during the press release, noting their commitment to Wyoming values and the impact they’ve had in Washington. “They are trailblazers for our state,” she said, “and I aim to continue their work with the same conviction.”.

In the upcoming Republican primary, Barrow will be facing competition from Wyoming Secretary of State Chuck Gray and Reed Lasner, who previously ran against incumbent Sen. John Barrasso in the last Senate primary.

Barrow transitioned from being Wyoming’s Superintendent of Public Instruction to Virginia’s in 2022 and plans to retire from her position in Virginia this year.

She expressed a firm belief in holding onto conservative principles and demonstrating real results for Wyoming. “This campaign is about protecting Wyoming’s strength and ensuring our state has a confident and independent voice in Congress,” she concluded.
