Brian Daboll Interviews for Titans Head Coach Position
Brian Daboll had his sights set on working with Cam Ward, but that opportunity didn’t materialize with the Giants. However, sources confirm that Daboll will likely get another chance, as he’ll be interviewing for the head coaching position with the Titans this Friday.
After wrapping up a dismal 3-14 season in 2024, Daboll was let go by the Giants mid-way through the 2025 season, holding a record of 2-8. It’s a stark contrast from his earlier success when he was named the NFL’s Coach of the Year in 2022, having led the Giants to a 9-7-1 finish and securing their first playoff victory since 2016. Overall, he ended his tenure with a 20-40-1 record over three seasons.
Meanwhile, the Giants are looking to select a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft, aiming for Ward with the first overall pick. They’ve scouted him extensively, even attending his pro day at the University of Miami. Unfortunately, the Titans hung on to their top pick and selected Ward, leaving the Giants empty-handed.
In the meantime, the Giants opted for edge rusher Abdul Carter at the third spot and eventually traded for a quarterback, sending general manager Joe Schoen to the Texans in exchange for a first-rounder and Jaxon Dart with the 25th overall pick.
Daboll is often praised for his knack for creating effective offensive strategies, particularly with quarterbacks. Ward had a rocky start in his rookie season and, much like Dart, went through a coaching shake-up. Brian Callahan’s tenure with the Titans ended with a 1-5 record, and interim coach Mike McCoy managed only a 2-9 finish.
During his time as a starter, Ward’s record was 3-14, completing 59.8% of his passes with a total of 17 touchdowns (15 passing, 2 rushing), seven interceptions, and an 80.2 passer rating.
On another note, Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi is in his second year and is exploring a wide range of candidates for the head coach position, having compiled a list of 17 potential candidates. Interviews have already taken place with individuals like interim Mike McCoy, Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, and former Cowboys coach Jason Garrett, among others.
Future interviews are lined up with previous head coaches Mike McDaniel, Raheem Morris, and Mike McCarthy, alongside more coordinators as playoff teams continue their runs.
This sets up a challenging landscape for Daboll, who is also considered a strong candidate for various offensive coordinator openings. As of now, the Titans are the only team that has reached out to him about a head coaching role.
