Rob Reiner’s Political Donation Before Tragic Event

Rob Reiner, the noted film director and vocal Democrat, recently made a significant donation of $10,000 to Eric Swalwell, a major candidate for California governor favored by key figures in the Democratic Party. This donation occurred on December 8, just six days before Reiner and his wife met a tragic end in their Los Angeles home, with allegations pointing to their son, Nick, struggling with addiction.

This generous support came shortly after Swalwell announced his candidacy during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” about two and a half weeks prior, as noted in campaign documents. However, it’s worth mentioning that Swalwell, 45, faced challenges in his last bid, garnering the lowest vote share of any current House member while seeking backing from elite donors.

Interestingly, Reiner wasn’t alone in backing Swalwell; other stars such as Sean Penn and Robert De Niro also contributed to his campaign.

At 78, Reiner is known for his strong liberal stance, frequently criticizing both former President Trump and the Republican Party. It seems he and Swalwell shared similar political values. While some may find Reiner’s overt political comments—like those in films such as “Stand by Me” and “When Harry Met Sally”—polarizing, he remained committed to expressing his views.

In a 2019 interview, Reiner reflected on the backlash he received online, mentioning how insults like “libtard” often surfaced. Despite this, he expressed a willingness to engage with those who want to discuss policies meaningfully.

Following the tragic finding of the Reiners in their home, Swalwell shared a heartfelt tribute on social media. He emphasized the deep love and patriotism that Rob and Michelle Reiner held for their country, adding that their absence would be profoundly felt.

Swalwell’s campaign and congressional staff did not respond immediately to inquiries about this incident.
