Eagles replace offensive coordinator after inconsistent season

Philadelphia Eagles Move On from Offensive Coordinator Kevin Pattullo

In a familiar pattern seen in recent seasons, the Philadelphia Eagles are set to end another year with a change in their offensive coordinator. Following a season marked by criticism, Kevin Pattullo will not continue as the team’s play-caller for the upcoming year. Head coach Nick Sirianni revealed on Tuesday that he had a meeting with Pattullo to discuss this “difficult decision.”

“We decided to change offensive coordinators. I met with Kevin,” Sirianni shared. He expressed respect for Pattullo, noting his significant contributions over the past five years—not just in terms of wins, but also as a key leader behind the scenes.

Despite having the NFL’s top-ranked offense on paper, the Eagles struggled with consistency. This issue was starkly evident during the second half of their wild-card loss to the 49ers, where they failed to score after halftime and missed a critical fourth-down chance late in the game. Ultimately, they lost 23-19, dashing their hopes for back-to-back Super Bowl appearances, while San Francisco moved on to face the Seattle Seahawks in the next round.

Under Pattullo’s direction, the Eagles ranked 21st in points scored per game and 24th in total yards. However, it wasn’t all bad; his offensive scheme shined in red zone situations, placing them at the top of the NFL in efficiency in that domain.

Interestingly, Saquon Barkley, last year’s Offensive Player of the Year, felt that Pattullo shouldn’t bear the brunt of blame for the team’s offensive issues. After their playoff exit, Barkley commented, “You can’t just point at one person. Yes, someone has to be held accountable, especially after a season like last year—but I don’t think it’s fair to put it all on him.”

Pattullo’s relationship with the team dates back to 2021, when he joined as the passing game coordinator, shortly after Sirianni was appointed head coach. Pattullo later succeeded Kellen Moore as offensive coordinator when Moore left for a head coaching position with the New Orleans Saints.
