Jennie’s Bold Statement at the 40th Golden Disc Awards

Jennie might have just declared, perhaps somewhat playfully, that red is the new beige.

The BLACKPINK member, 29, turned heads at the 40th Golden Disc Awards in Taipei, Taiwan, on January 10. She wore a striking custom scarlet dress by Maison Margiela Artisanal, reminiscent of the dramatic look Kim Kardashian debuted in beige at the Academy Museum Gala last October.

Kardashian, 45, took a bold approach with an avant-garde hood on the LA runway, but Jennie chose to reveal her take on the red carpet instead.

While Jennie’s stylist, Sam Wolfe, shared backstage photos of her in a fully hooded outfit, she ended up ditching the headpiece for her moment in front of the cameras. This decision certainly makes a statement—keeping the focus on her vibrant look instead.

Kardashian’s choice of mask sparked quite a discussion online and became a playful topic among her glam team. She previously mentioned to Variety that she had her makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic, flown in from New York for the event.

In a humorous twist, hairstylist Chris Appleton captioned a post, saying, “Behind the mask, the glam squad is crying silently.” But for Jennie, the emphasis was on dazzling accessories.

She traded the mask for an eye-catching Antoine necklace, featuring a stunning 60-carat pigeon blood ruby and 27 carats of diamonds, with a jaw-dropping value of around $4 million.

Interestingly, Jennie’s reimagined version of the dress maintains the same severe corseted bodice and dramatic draped sleeves while showcasing a bold cherry red hue. It seems she might be the third A-lister to adopt this Margiela silhouette, following Anya Taylor-Joy’s white take at November’s Governors Awards, which she notably wore without a mask.

All in all, Jennie’s fashion choices are making waves, demonstrating that sometimes a vibrant twist on a classic is all you need to stand out.
