Jon Stewart Weighs in on Clintons and Epstein Investigation

On his podcast Wednesday, Jon Stewart, the host of “The Daily Show,” expressed that former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton should definitely comply with the subpoenas issued by Congress.

Stewart was responding to a question from an audience member about whether the Clintons ought to engage with the House Oversight Committee’s investigation into Jeffrey Epstein. This week, both Clintons had declined the committee’s request to testify.

“Absolutely,” Stewart stated. However, he added a question about the Justice Department’s reluctance to release certain files. “Why should they comply when the Justice Department won’t? Is compliance a special privilege for some or is it supposed to be universal? The Justice Department is holding back documents, yet they’ve subpoenaed them for the Epstein case,” he noted.

He continued, “So how does that fit together? But do I think they should comply? Absolutely.” Stewart emphasized, during his podcast, the importance of transparency regarding their actions. “If they’re hiding something, or if there’s an affair, we ought to know. This situation is outrageous and needs to be addressed.” He insisted that both the Clintons and the Justice Department should act in accordance with the law so victims can find some measure of justice.

The Clintons have not yet provided any comment on the situation.

It’s noteworthy that the subpoenas were issued by the House Oversight Committee rather than the Justice Department.

Committee Chairman James Comer confirmed that there would be consequences for the Clintons’ refusal to comply.

Comer stated, “Those who have complied, like the Epstein estate and former officials such as Bill Barr and Alex Acosta, did so under our lawful subpoena. This legal request was also given to the Clintons, but they chose to defy it.”

Meanwhile, a lawyer for the Clintons has criticized this stance, expressing that ongoing insistence on the subpoenas could result in a prolonged legal battle that detracts from Congress’s focus on addressing essential matters. They emphasized the need for integrity to ensure that victims of Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell receive justice, no matter how delayed it may be.

Under the Epstein File Transparency Act enacted in November, the Justice Department is required to provide public access to all unclassified records related to the Epstein investigation in a searchable format.

Recently, the Department of Justice informed a U.S. District Judge that over two million documents could be relevant to this act, stating that they are in various stages of review. So far, only about 12,285 documents, amounting to roughly 125,575 pages, have been released, which is less than 1% of the total potentially related records. The Justice Department acknowledges that many documents are likely duplicates.
