Ilhan Omar Responds to Fraud Accusations

Representative Ilhan Omar dismissed claims of her involvement in a fraud scandal affecting Minnesota’s Somali community, and even mocked a reporter who sought clarification. In an Instagram video, she questioned why she was being accused of being complicit, asking, “How can I be an accomplice?”

When pressed by the reporter, she retorted sharply, “You keep asking stupid questions?”

Interestingly, Omar’s financial disclosures reveal a significant increase in her family’s wealth, growing from nearly nothing to $30 million in just one year, which has attracted scrutiny. This surge happened amidst a $9 billion fraud scheme within her district’s Somali community, while her husband’s venture capital firm saw unexplained growth despite lacking any clear financial activity.

Omar sarcastically questioned the credibility of the $9 billion figure. “Is 9 billion real?” she asked, suggesting that it’s hard to believe half of the public service resources could simply vanish. However, her assessment seemed off.

According to the state Office of Management and Budget, Minnesota received $23 billion in federal funds for 2025. Yet, the $9 billion referenced by the U.S. attorney relates to potential theft over almost a decade.

Further responses from Omar included her mocking of the female reporter once more. “Read it,” she said dismissively, as she walked away.

When the reporter brought up statements from House Oversight Chairman James Comer regarding the funds, Omar maintained her stance. “I believe that because Comer is as smart as you,” she smirked. Her remarks escalated as she suggested the reporter needed to get her brain checked. “I think you need one of those learning centers,” she added, referencing a viral learning facility tied to the scandal.
