Ashton Kutcher says Gucci let him go because he was 'too overweight'

Ashton Kutcher Reflects on Being Fired from Gucci

Ashton Kutcher has shared that he was let go from Gucci during his modeling days because he was considered overweight. In a recent interview, he recounted being booked for a campaign by the luxury brand, which at the time was led by Tom Ford, and traveling to Italy for a runway show.

Kutcher described his experience, stating, “Then I showed up and flew to Italy for a runway show, and he put me in what looked like a pink Speedo.” At the time, he weighed around 178 pounds.

Ford reportedly dismissed him, saying, “He’s too fat.” Kutcher laughed about it, trying to make light of the situation by remembering, “I thought, ‘Dude, I was 178 pounds! What are you talking about?’”

Now at 47, he and Ford look back on the incident with a sense of humor. Kutcher noted that Ford had a specific vision, and in that moment, he didn’t fit into it. “He had something he wanted, something he wanted to see, and in his eyes it was the right thing,” he explained. He reflected on the competitive and anxiety-filled environment among the models, saying, “It didn’t mean I was inferior, but it just meant I wasn’t that good to him in that moment.”

When asked about his modeling career, Kutcher mentioned starting at around 19 and realizing that even the so-called “most beautiful people in the world” face anxiety. “What I quickly realized was that everyone has anxiety,” he remarked.

In previous discussions, Kutcher has expressed that his model looks occasionally hindered his acting career. He explained, “Some roles I got because of the way I looked, and some roles I didn’t get because of the way I looked. It can be frustrating sometimes.”

Currently, he stars in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming FX series “The Beauty,” which premieres on January 21st. The show explores a theme where a sexually transmitted disease enhances beauty but ultimately has fatal consequences, prompting a discussion about physical perfection. He also took a moment to commend his ex-wife Demi Moore’s performance in the acclaimed film “Substance,” noting her Oscar nomination and sharing, “I’m so proud of her, she killed it.”
