Seahawks Advance to NFC Championship Game with Convincing Win

In Seattle, Rashid Shahid made headlines by returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown, and Kenneth Walker III contributed with three rushing touchdowns, leading the Seahawks to a resounding 41-6 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday night.

Sam Darnold also played a key role, throwing a touchdown pass for the Seahawks (15-3), marking their first playoff victory. Next week, they’ll face either the Chicago Bears or the Los Angeles Rams, with a chance to reach the Super Bowl up for grabs.

Just 13 seconds into the game, Shahid set the tone with a stunning 95-yard kickoff return, giving Seattle an early 7-0 advantage.

This remarkable play marked the fourth time since 2000 that a kickoff return for a touchdown opened a playoff game. Moreover, it became the longest postseason kick return in Seahawks history.

Despite being listed as questionable with an oblique injury, Darnold guided the Seahawks to two additional scoring drives, establishing a strong lead before San Francisco managed to score their first of two field goals.

Darnold completed 12 of his 17 passes for 124 yards and connected with Jackson Smith-Njigba for a touchdown in a remarkable playoff debut for the star receiver, even after struggling last season with the Minnesota Vikings in a playoff loss against the Rams.

The 49ers (13-6) struggled significantly, experiencing one of their most lopsided playoff defeats ever.

In the history of the franchise, the last time they faced such a harsh loss was back in 1986 when they fell to the New York Giants 49-3.

San Francisco missed three key players due to injuries: tight end George Kittle, linebacker Fred Warner, and defensive end Nick Bosa.

On the other side, Brock Purdy managed to complete 15 of 27 passes for 140 yards but battled against Seattle’s aggressive defense, ending up with an interception and a lost fumble.

The Seahawks’ defense made a big impact, with tight end Jake Tonges recovering a fumble as well.

Walker’s trio of rushing touchdowns tied him with Shaun Alexander for the most touchdowns in a single playoff game in franchise history.
