Hollywood’s Shift Toward Faith-Based Stories: David Henrie’s Perspective

David Henrie, an actor known for his role as Justin Russo on Disney Channel’s *Wizards of Waverly Place*, has observed a notable shift in the way Hollywood approaches faith. He believes this change offers a unique opportunity for Christians to embrace and engage with the industry.

In a conversation with Fox News Digital, Henrie, who is a committed Catholic, shared that there’s a growing acceptance of faith in Hollywood compared to a decade ago. He noted that executives now frequently seek “content for people of faith,” recognizing their underrepresentation in media.

Becoming a father has made Henrie’s desire for values-driven storytelling even more personal. He feels it’s important to create content that families—like his—can appreciate and resonate with.

Discussing his motivations, Henrie said he wanted to craft larger, meaningful narratives around the gifts he feels have been given to him. This ambition led him to establish Novo Inspire Studios, a production company dedicated to creating “content that entertains and uplifts.” His aim? To provide viewers with fulfilling stories that avoid unnecessary distractions. Perhaps many can relate to that feeling of watching something and wondering, “Why did they include this scene?”

His latest venture, *Seeking Beauty*, is a travel documentary series produced in partnership with EWTN Studios. Set in Italy, the series delves into Italian art, architecture, food, and culture, exploring these elements as pathways to the divine.

Henrie described the series as primarily a travel show but emphasized his wish for it to transcend typical expectations. Rather than playing the expert, he prefers to approach these locations as an everyday individual, curious and eager to learn, which creates a relatable experience for viewers.

One memorable experience for him was during a visit to the Duomo cathedral in Milan. There, he spotted a hidden statue with intricate details, raising the question, “Why is this not more visible?” The guide responded, “Well, David, some things are for God.” It was an answer that resonated deeply with him both as a storyteller and a person of faith.

Despite acknowledging the challenge, Henrie humorously remarked that he wants as many people as possible to see his work, even if, at times, there’s a tension between creative authenticity and public visibility.

For Henrie, *Seeking Beauty* is reflective of his ongoing journey in living out his beliefs, on-screen and off. He quoted St. Francis of Assisi: “Preach the Gospel always, use words if necessary,” highlighting the importance of actions in showcasing one’s faith.

Henrie perceives the current trend in Hollywood as a sign of a larger cultural awakening—one where individuals of faith have the chance to shape narratives instead of merely reacting to them. His experiences in places rich with history, like the birthplace of the Renaissance, fuel his passion for storytelling that connects the past with contemporary cultural discussions.

He feels that, as faith-based filmmakers prove there’s a market for these stories, a renaissance of spiritual art might be on the horizon. Henrie believes that believers should actively participate in the cultural landscape, contributing positively instead of withdrawing.

Ultimately, as he looks forward to the potential unfolding in the coming years, Henrie encourages artists to rise to the occasion and create beautiful, meaningful work that resonates with truth.
