Finn Wolfhard and Ben Marshall Parody “Harry Potter” on SNL
In a recent “Saturday Night Live” sketch, Finn Wolfhard and Ben Marshall humorously tackled the “fierce rivalry” between Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. The pre-taped segment poked fun at both the iconic series and a fictional feud, showcasing their comedic talents.
Titled “Hot Wizardry,” the sketch made light of HBO’s upcoming “Harry Potter” series, igniting some playful tension between the characters. The skit opens with a voiceover discussing Wolfhard’s Harry and Marshall’s Ron as they begin their journey at Hogwarts. It humorously sets the stage for a narrative that, perhaps, was crafted quickly due to the success of another HBO show.
In one amusing exchange, Marshall’s Ron casually notes, “You dropped your wand. By the way, you look nice.” To which Wolfhard’s Harry flirtatiously responds, “I’d love to see your wand someday.”
The sketch cleverly mixed elements of Quidditch competition with behind-the-scenes romance, drawing parallels to a more modern rivalry depicted in “Heated Rivals.” Some may find the imaginary dynamics amusing, while others might think it’s an interesting twist.
In another lighthearted moment, Wolfhard’s Harry, while sharing the Invisibility Cloak with Marshall’s Ron, asks, “Hermione, what’s the spell that makes things bigger?” The playful banter continues post-Quidditch as Harry remarks, “I couldn’t catch the Snitch,” to which Ron responds, “You’ve found something more important, my attention,” as humor unfolds around them.
The sketch also featured several other characters, including James Austin Johnson as Severus Snape and a surprise visit from Jason Momoa, humorously quoting, “You’re a fagot, Harry,” in a take on the original phrase from the series.
The voiceover comments on the characters being “all over the age of 18” since “Hogwarts is like a modern-day university,” adding a cheeky twist. A fictitious quote supposedly from J.K. Rowling, stating her lack of involvement, added to the comedic vibe.
This particular episode marked Wolfhard’s debut as host of the iconic show, and it was an eventful night with guest appearances from “Stranger Things” co-stars Caleb McLaughlin and Gaten Matarazzo. Reflecting on his journey, Wolfhard humorously noted, “A lot of people still think of me as the kid from Stranger Things, right? But I’m 23 years old now and I’m proud to officially announce that I’m a man.” His playful acknowledgment felt relatable and genuine.
As McLaughlin and Matarazzo joined him on stage, they chimed in, “And so are we!” This camaraderie sparked joy among the audience, closing out a special moment for all connected to the series.
