Immigration Arrests in Minneapolis Surpass 10,000
Since the beginning of the second Trump administration, over 10,000 illegal immigrants have been detained in Minneapolis. Notably, 3,000 of those arrests took place in just the past six weeks, according to an announcement from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) this Monday.
“Peace and Security in Minneapolis!” DHS Secretary Kristi Noem proclaimed in a post on X.
Noem criticized those arrested for supposedly failing to protect their fellow citizens, claiming they “kill Americans, harm children, and instill fear in Minneapolis.”
On Sunday, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey stirred some controversy during his appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” where he likened ICE’s enforcement actions in his city to an “invasion” by the federal government.
In what DHS describes as a significant immigration enforcement effort, the operation has seen about 3,000 agents from various agencies—including ICE, Customs and Border Protection, and Homeland Security Investigations—deployed in Minneapolis since just after Thanksgiving.
“In these past six weeks, our dedicated DHS agents have apprehended 3,000 illegal aliens, including individuals charged with serious crimes like murder, rape, and child exploitation,” Noem stated, framing the operation as a critical success for public safety. She also addressed a significant fraud issue in Minnesota, hinting at a broader investigation.
Noem revealed that an estimated $19 billion in fraudulent activities is linked to Minneapolis, a stark increase from the $9 billion cited by U.S. Attorney Joe Thompson regarding theft from the state’s welfare system. Much of this fraud is said to involve members of Minnesota’s Somali community, a claim that President Trump echoed in a post on Truth Social, where he called out Representative Ilhan Omar.
“There is $19 billion in the Somalia scam. Ilhan Omar, the so-called ‘congressman’ who despises America, knows all the details. She deserves severe consequences,” Trump wrote, suggesting she should face serious repercussions or be sent back to Somalia.
