Elon Musk Donates $10 Million to Senate Challenger Nate Morris
In the competitive race to replace retiring Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), tech entrepreneur Elon Musk has made a significant move by donating $10 million to Republican candidate Nate Morris, as reported in a recent article.
This donation is part of a larger increase of $1 billion to a super PAC supporting Morris, marking it as Musk’s largest contribution to a federal candidate other than former President Trump. This information comes from sources familiar with the situation.
According to records revealed by Axios, the super PAC Fight for Kentucky had a mere $49,606.75 in cash available as of its last filing with the Federal Election Commission on July 31.
Nate Morris, who is the founder of a waste and recycling company called Rubicon, is contending against Representative Andy Barr (R-Ky.) and former U.S. Attorney General Daniel Cameron for the Senate seat vacated by McConnell, who has the distinction of being the longest-serving leader in Senate history.
A source mentioned that Musk was recently impressed by Morris’s entrepreneurial background and his strong anti-establishment stance, particularly his criticism of McConnell.
Morris, 45, focuses on an “anti-McConnell” narrative, asserting how the Kentucky senator has, in his view, undermined Trump, especially when it comes to the 2020 election controversy. He has suggested that Cameron and Barr are merely “puppets” of McConnell.
On the other hand, Barr, at 52, has been more successful in fundraising compared to Morris in the latter half of 2025, raising over $6.42 million as of the end of December, according to reports. Meanwhile, Morris noted that he had $1.5 million available, mainly from self-funding his campaign so far.
Barr’s campaign manager expressed concerns about Morris’s spending, claiming it draws more attention to him but also highlights negative aspects of his campaign. Morris is expected to keep funding his campaign through the upcoming Republican primary on May 19.
Back in May, Musk had indicated he would significantly reduce his political spending, especially after a close relationship with Trump soured, but that dynamic seems to have shifted, as Musk has recently re-emphasized his support for the Republican Party during midterm elections.
Musk commented that the consequences of a radical left victory would be dire, fearing it could lead to increased illegal immigration and other challenges for America.
This election cycle, Musk has contributed $45 million to his America PAC, which backs Trump for the 2024 election, along with over $200 million in donations to other Republican causes.
In addition to his previous donations, Musk has also given $10 million to PACs advocating for Republican control in both the House and Senate, and $5 million specifically to Make America Great Again, a prominent pro-Trump PAC.
Polling data in the Senate race has shown Morris lagging behind, even after spending $6 million on advertising, and struggling against the Democrats in general election surveys.
Critics have pointed out that Morris has not been definitively supporting the Trump narrative, noting past associations and business struggles. Barr, however, has gained backing from various Trump allies.
Morris’s campaign receives support from notable Republican figures, including Senators Bernie Moreno and Jim Banks, as well as former Trump strategist Steve Bannon. Meanwhile, Trump has not made any endorsements in the primary race yet.
Representatives for Cameron’s campaign have not responded to inquiries.
