Indiana Hoosiers Star Quarterback Faces Tough Hit in Championship Game

During the national championship game against the Miami Hurricanes, Indiana Hoosiers quarterback Fernando Mendoza took a significant hit in the first quarter. As he passed the ball to a running back, he moved toward a Miami defender, attempting to act as a blocker. It seems he might have underestimated the situation.

Mendoza, who has claimed the Heisman Trophy, was knocked back by Hurricanes defensive back Jacobe Thomas. According to ESPN broadcasts, Mendoza fell and was seen bleeding from his lip after the collision. Fans expressed concern over whether Thomas had committed a targeting foul, as he appeared to hit Mendoza with the helmet’s crown. However, the officials on the field let the play continue.

Mendoza is accustomed to heavy tackles; he had experienced hard hits earlier in the season against Iowa and Oklahoma State, yet he remained in the game both times, leading the Hoosiers to victories.

Indiana managed to score first with a field goal late in the first quarter. Then, with just over six minutes left in the second quarter, Mendoza successfully marched the Hoosiers downfield, handing the ball off to Riley Nowakowski for a touchdown. This put Indiana ahead with a score of 10-0.

If this lead holds, Indiana is poised to celebrate its first national championship in college football history.
