Trump Praises Harbaugh as Giants’ New Coach
On Monday night, President Donald Trump expressed his approval of the New York Giants’ decision to hire John Harbaugh, the outgoing college football national champion and former coach of the Baltimore Ravens.
Trump had previously encouraged the Giants to consider Harbaugh, and shortly after their meeting, the team officially signed him to a five-year contract.
Before boarding his flight back to Washington, Trump mentioned that he wasn’t sure if he had any influence on the hiring but was confident in Harbaugh’s capabilities. “They had a great coach,” he commented. “I like the coach. I met with his family a few months ago—his parents came to visit me at the White House. I think they like me, and, well, I like them too.”
He also noted, “Harbaugh is a great coach and will do wonderfully with the Giants, just like his brother did. Their family definitely has something special.” It seems he genuinely believes the Giants have made a solid choice.
Earlier this month, Trump had publicly endorsed Harbaugh on Truth Social, saying, “The New York Football Giants should hire John Harbaugh without question. And John, the great guy, should take the job!”
During Harbaugh’s tenure with the Ravens, the team made the playoffs 12 times and celebrated a Super Bowl victory in 2012, just a year after the Giants last claimed the title.
