Michael McKee reportedly provided a false address before being arrested in connection with the Ohio dentist murders

Ex-Husband of Ohio Dentist’s Wife Indicted for Double Murder

Michael David McKee, 39, was arrested on January 10 in connection with the murders of Spencer Tepe, 37, and Monique Tepe, 39, in Columbus, Ohio. Law enforcement found the couple dead from gunshot wounds in their home in the Weinland Park neighborhood on December 30. Notably, McKee is Monique’s ex-husband.

McKee faces charges of premeditated aggravated murder in relation to the deaths of the Tepe couple. The couple married on August 22, 2015, but they separated just seven months later in March 2016. According to the divorce filings, Monique described them as “incompatible,” and they did not have any children during their short marriage.

Interestingly, a Las Vegas attorney, Dan Laird, who is handling a legal matter involving McKee, revealed that the address provided by McKee’s former employer, Las Vegas Surgical Associates, was actually nonexistent. Laird noted that attempts to reach McKee through former colleagues, including Dr. Peter Calavera, were unsuccessful—Calavera reportedly said he was unaware of McKee’s current whereabouts, stating he had “just disappeared.”

A Nevada judge eventually allowed legal documents to be served to McKee via a newspaper notice after a process server’s multiple attempts to locate him failed.

According to forensic scientist Joseph Scott Morgan, the efforts to use a fake address and phone number might indicate McKee was trying to hide from potential scrutiny, such as lawsuits or law enforcement. He suggested that this kind of deception is often a tactic to evade investigators.

Morgan raised an interesting question about why someone would go to such lengths: “Why are you going to go so far in deceiving people? If you have a physical address, you have to consider whether a warrant will be served.” He added that if a court needed to reach you, they’d go to your listed address to serve documents.

Currently, McKee is awaiting extradition from the Winnebago County Jail in Rockford, Illinois, to face charges in Columbus, Ohio. If extradited, further legal proceedings will take place regarding the alleged murders of Monique and Spencer Tepe.
