Brooklyn Nets’ Tim Capstraw Compares Grayson Allen to Ted Cruz

On Monday night, Brooklyn Nets announcer Tim Capstraw triggered a bit of surprise when he suggested that Phoenix Suns guard Grayson Allen looks like a younger version of Senator Ted Cruz.

The commentary came during a YES Network broadcast as Allen entered the game in the second quarter, with the Suns holding a lead of 45-28 over the Nets. Capstraw mentioned, “I can’t look at him and think of Ted Cruz. I’m not Mr. Politics or anything, but that guy is a young Ted Cruz to me.”

His broadcast partner, Ryan Ruocco, agreed, calling Capstraw’s observation “on point,” suggesting that Cruz should be “comfortable” with that analogy.

Cruz himself is no stranger to the likeness. A few years back, he went viral after a cheeky interaction with the media involving Allen, which involved an image of the player in his Duke uniform when asked for proof of his basketball history.

In the game itself, Allen performed well off the bench, accumulating 14 points and eight assists in 30 minutes as the Suns defeated the Nets 126-117. Dillon Brooks was the standout for Phoenix, scoring 27 points, with Devin Booker contributing 24 points.

On the Nets’ side, Michael Porter Jr. led his team with 23 points, along with six rebounds and four assists. Noah Clowney added 16 points to the mix.

The victory brought Phoenix to a record of 26 wins and 17 losses, while Brooklyn fell to 12 wins and 29 losses.
