Shooting Incident Involves Indiana Judge and His Wife
A mass shooting in Lafayette, Indiana, on Sunday afternoon left a judge and his wife injured. The gunman, before opening fire, reportedly spoke to them. Audio evidence, retrieved by Fox News Digital, indicates he knocked on Judge Stephen Meyer and his wife Kimberly’s door, claiming, “I have your dog,” before discharging his weapon through the door.
During the attack, Stephen Meyer sustained a gunshot wound to his arm, while Kimberly Meyer was shot in the hip at their Mill Pond Lane residence around 2:15 p.m. Fortunately, both were treated and are in stable condition.
Details on the number of shots fired remain unclear, though police did recover shell casings at the site. As of now, no suspects have been arrested, and no descriptions of a suspect have been released.
The shooting is currently under investigation, involving several agencies including the Lafayette and West Lafayette police departments, the Indiana State Police, the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office, and the FBI.
Judge Stephen Meyer serves on the Tippecanoe Superior Court, and a letter from Indiana Chief Justice Loretta H. Rush addressed to judges statewide highlighted the incident.
In the aftermath, Kimberly Meyer expressed gratitude toward investigators and first responders, stating through police that she has “great confidence in the Lafayette Police Department’s investigation.” She also thanked the community for their overwhelming support during this difficult time.
Lafayette Mayor Tony Rozwalski labeled the shooting a “senseless and unacceptable act of violence,” emphasizing the commitment of law enforcement to address the situation.
