Minnesota Attorney General Under Scrutiny for Handling of Protests

Attorney Jonathan Turley has raised concerns that Democratic leaders are potentially inviting more federal intervention in Minnesota by approving actions that infringe on federal laws and civil rights during church protests.

According to Turley, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has displayed an unusual stance against actual law enforcement. He critiqued Ellison’s recent lawsuit aimed to hinder the federal government from enforcing its own laws while he himself has been reluctant to uphold state laws. This, Turley suggests, is akin to a doctor who refuses to prescribe necessary medicine.

Turley pointed out that Ellison has, in many ways, aligned himself with groups like Antifa, which support chaos while condemning police actions. Ironically, despite advocating for more federal oversight, Ellison seems disinterested in prosecuting his political allies. This behavior creates a vacuum that could attract federal resources to Minnesota.

During an interview with CNN, Ellison acknowledged the importance of public protest, saying:

Protests are an essential part of American culture. Our nation was founded on them. It’s vital for citizens to express themselves and pursue peace. We all must recognize the power of public sentiment. I believe we need to uphold First Amendment rights, religious freedom, and freedom of expression to foster a healthy society.

Notably, several high-ranking state officials participated in the recent disruptions. A report indicated that a prominent prosecutor backed by Soros was involved in these protests. Jamael Lundy, an intergovernmental affairs coordinator for the Hennepin County Attorney, who is also married to a St. Paul City Council member and is running for state representative, was present at one of the protest events. Lundy’s background includes work with various Democratic organizations and initiatives.

President Trump voiced his disapproval of the church disruption, calling it “really terrible” during a press conference. Other Democratic figures also expressed support for the actions against the church, with Representative Lee Finke stating:

Nonviolent resistance is crucial in the face of such government invasions, and it must persist until we see significant changes, including the removal of ICE from the state.

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, it was noted that Dr. King advocated against injustice and believed in the necessity of nonviolent protests to bring about change on a national scale.

Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal also emphasized concerns about the tactics used by ICE agents that may breach constitutional protections, noting that while she hadn’t seen the full protest footage, most demonstrators were peaceful.

It’s essential to address mob harassment against political opponents without hindering federal law enforcement.
