Scott Pelley calls out CBS leader Bari Weiss regarding the '60 Minutes' issue

CBS News Addresses 60 Minutes Article Retraction

Recently, political commentator Terry Schilling shared his thoughts on CBS News retracting a segment from the show “60 Minutes.” He pointed to the broader issue of declining trust in traditional media among audiences.

Scott Pelley, the host of “60 Minutes,” has reportedly mentioned the need to take his role “more seriously” following the departure of CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss from his segment last month. This shift in tone comes amid mounting tensions at the network since Weiss took charge under the new CEO, David Ellison, last October. The situation intensified when Weiss canceled a segment on attorney general’s actions regarding immigrants sent to a Salvadoran prison, just hours before it was set to air.

The day after the decision, a staff meeting was held where Pelley reportedly expressed concerns about Weiss’s absence during segment screenings and her lack of direct communication with him. He was quoted saying she needed to approach her job with more seriousness.

This marks a distinct shift from Pelley’s earlier comments, where he stated that minimal interference had allowed all stories to air during the previous season. He had expressed assurance about the new management, stating they were still focused on delivering rigorous journalism.

Fox News Digital has reached out to CBS News for remarks on the situation.

Concerns have surfaced from former CBS staff regarding what they view as a “broken editorial oversight,” particularly due to Weiss’s decisions. An unnamed ex-executive mentioned the risk of being seen as engaging in “corporate interference” after the segment was pulled.

The former CBS staffer pondered whether viewer complaints played a role in the last-minute changes. Another source noted that Weiss admitted she might not have been as informed as necessary about the marketing and promotional scheduling for “60 Minutes.”

Despite the challenges, the segment titled “Inside CECOT” eventually aired on Sunday night.
