Osi Umeniora Reveals Health Struggles
Former New York Giants star and two-time Super Bowl champion Osi Umeniora has shared details about a serious health crisis that put him in a coma for several days.
In a recent appearance on “The Breakdown” via NFL UK & Ireland, Umeniora opened up about facing significant challenges. “I went through some real adversity,” he stated.
“I was in the hospital for almost a month,” he recalled. “I was in a coma for five days and had major surgery. It was really tough. I quickly realized who genuinely cared for me, as many people visited every day, even when I was unable to respond. Some traveled from far and wide just to see me at my lowest.”
Umeniora expressed deep appreciation for his co-host, Jason Bell, who stood by him throughout the ordeal. “This guy was with me every step of the way. I remember waking up and seeing him; I felt so grateful that I couldn’t help but cry.”
“So don’t ever think what we’re discussing here isn’t genuine. It is real. I love you, J-Bell, and I appreciate everything you’ve done. I’ve been told that when you spoke, everyone’s heart rates actually increased. It was incredible.”
Though Umeniora did not delve into specific details of his health issues, he reflected on his impressive 11-year NFL career with the Giants and Atlanta Falcons. He earned two Pro Bowl selections and played a crucial role in the Giants’ victories over the New England Patriots in both Super Bowl XLII and XLVI.
Overall, his story sheds light on strength and the importance of support during difficult times.
