Meghan Trainor Responds to Surrogacy Criticism
Meghan Trainor is brushing off the negativity. Over the weekend, she spoke out against critics of her decision to have her third child, daughter Mikey, via surrogate.
“Surrogacy is just one beautiful way to start a family,” the 32-year-old Grammy winner shared in an interview. “It’s not something to whisper about or judge.”
In her comments, she emphasized that the process is founded on trust, science, love, and teamwork. “Every family’s journey looks different, but they’re all valid,” she added.
Trainor acknowledged that using a gestational carrier wasn’t their initial choice, but after discussions with their doctors, she and husband Daryl Sabara found it was the safest route for expanding their family. They are also parents to sons Riley, 4, and Barry, 2.
Appreciative of the experience, she described her surrogate as “selfless, strong, and loving.” Trainor expressed gratitude for the nurturing connection they developed during the process. “She gave us the greatest gift of life,” Trainor remarked, noting how her surrogate kept them updated and reassured throughout the pregnancy.
On social media, she celebrated the arrival of Mikey, posting a hospital photo. “January 18, 2026. Our baby girl Mikey Moon Trainor is finally here, thanks to our incredible superwoman surrogate mother,” she wrote, mentioning the excitement of her sons for their new little sister.
Trainor shared that Riley and Barry even picked out her middle name. “We’re going to enjoy some family time now, we love you all,” she said, ending her post with warmth and gratitude.
Since welcoming Riley in February 2021 and Barry in July 2023, Trainor has faced challenges in her pregnancy experiences. She previously opened up about her traumatic first birth and the PTSD that followed after a C-section, along with developing gestational diabetes during her second pregnancy.
To address her weight loss, Trainor discussed her journey on Instagram, where she mentioned working with a nutritionist and making major lifestyle changes. Interestingly, her husband, Sabara, revealed he was also taking weight loss pills, emphasizing the couple’s shared commitment in their health journeys.
Trainor and Sabara, who have a playful relationship—often sharing amusing anecdotes about their closeness—began dating in 2016, got engaged the next year, and married in 2018.
