Trump’s Vision for the New Peace Commission
During a speech at Davos, President Donald Trump, who chairs the newly established Peace Commission, expressed that this initiative has the potential to “become one of the most important institutions ever created.”
His comments followed a historical address at the World Economic Forum where the Peace Commission was officially announced. Leaders from participating nations were present on stage during this announcement.
Trump stated, “This board has the opportunity to become one of the most important institutions ever created, and I am honored to serve as its chairman. I was honored when they asked me to serve.”
He elaborated, “We had an idea to do it, and they came and said, ‘Would you be the chairman?’…I take that very seriously. We have a great group of talent and incredible young people leading it from within.”
In a lighthearted moment, Trump noted his camaraderie with the other leaders on stage, saying, “In this group, I like all of them. Can you believe it? Usually there are two or three people I can’t stand. Not here, though. They’re great leaders.”
One major focus for the council includes addressing issues in the Gaza Strip, prompted by Trump’s 20-point Middle East peace agreement introduced in October, which Hamas has agreed to.
“The first steps toward a brighter day for the Middle East and a safer future for the world are unfolding before your eyes. Together, we stand for incredible opportunities. I wouldn’t call it a chance. I believe it will bring an end to decades of suffering, end generations of hatred and bloodshed, and create a beautiful, lasting and glorious peace in the region and the world at large.”
Trump praised the members at Davos, referring to them as “stars.”
He remarked, “When you use that genius that you have, that very rare and very inspired genius, for peace, the opposite of peace has no chance.”
As reported by the White House, the group includes leaders from various countries such as Bahrain, Morocco, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Egypt, Hungary, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Mongolia, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and Uzbekistan.
