Recovery of Jordan Shipley
Jordan Shipley has truly defied the odds. The former Longhorns standout was discharged from the hospital this past weekend after enduring weeks of treatment for severe burns from a terrible accident at a ranch in Texas earlier this month.
His wife, Sunny, shared the news on social media, saying, “We wanted to let you know that we have been released from the hospital because we know so many people are praying.” She added, “I still can’t believe it. As we were being discharged, many doctors, nurses, and specialists kept saying he was nothing short of a miracle, noting they had never seen someone in his condition recover so quickly.”
Jordan sustained burns on January 6 when machinery he was working with caught fire, necessitating an airlift to the hospital. Just two days later, his wife mentioned that the 40-year-old had undergone multiple surgeries and would require skin grafts on his hands, arms, and legs.
Photos shared by Sunny showed Jordan in a hospital bed, wrapped in bandages almost entirely. “He is still in a lot of pain. We have a tough and long journey ahead, but I can assure you we’ll get through this with joy and admiration,” she posted. “We haven’t entirely gone home yet, but we will stay close to the hospital to get a change of clothes and help him adjust once he’s discharged.”
Sunny expressed gratitude for the medical staff, writing, “The Dell Seton burn team, the nurses, and everyone we encountered are special people who have made a huge impact on us. Please keep them in your thoughts, as they deal with heartbreaking cases every day.” Her heartfelt thanks resonated deeply with their followers.
Shipley’s legacy at Texas is significant; he played for the Longhorns from 2006 to 2009, earning All-American honors twice with 248 receptions, 3,191 yards, and 33 touchdowns. He holds several Texas records, including single-season catches (116) and receiving yards (1,485), set in 2009.
After being drafted in the third round by the Bengals in 2010, he played three seasons in the NFL, amassing 118 receptions, 858 yards, and four touchdowns in 24 games across teams like Cincinnati, Tampa Bay, and Jacksonville, though a knee injury sidelined him for the entire 2011 season.
