Fans of the Bills call for Sean McDermott's reinstatement after his dismissal

Bills Fans Rally for Coach Reinstatement

To date, Bills Mafia has submitted over 29,000 statements regarding the recent situation.

After the unexpected firing of Sean McDermott on Monday, a longtime supporter of the Buffalo Bills started a petition advocating for his reinstatement after he was let go again at the start of the playoffs.

In her petition, Maria Maisonet expresses a mix of heartbreak and confusion, stating, “The recent decision to fire Sean McDermott has left me and countless others heartbroken and perplexed. Sean McDermott is not only the strategic mastermind behind our team’s recent success but also a deeply committed and inspirational leader to the Buffalo community.” You can find her petition here.

She adds, “We must not allow this decision to dismantle the strong foundation we have worked so hard to build. It is important that we make our voices heard in order to convince Buffalo Bills management to reconsider and reinstate Sean McDermott as head coach.”

McDermott, who became head coach in 2017, has recorded a 98-50 win-loss ratio over nine regular seasons, helping elevate the Bills to a powerhouse status within the AFC East.

Under his leadership, the team reached the playoffs eight times, although they only advanced to the AFC Championship once. This year, they made it to the divisional round but faced another disappointing end, losing 33-30 in overtime against the Broncos on Saturday.

In a press conference that didn’t go as planned, Bills owner Terry Pegula stated that a tense atmosphere in the locker room after the game prompted the decision to make a change.

“After the game, I want to take you to the locker room. I looked around. The first thing I noticed was the quarterback with his head down and crying. I looked at all the other players. I looked at their faces and I looked at the coach,” Pegula said. “I walked over to Josh [Allen]. He didn’t even acknowledge I was there.”

“I saw the pain on Josh’s face against the press and I felt his pain. I know we can do better and I know we will get better.”

As of Thursday afternoon, the petition to reinstate McDermott had garnered over 29,000 signatures.

Meanwhile, the Bills have started looking for McDermott’s replacement, considering familiar candidates such as offensive coordinator Joe Brady, former offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, and former assistant head coach Anthony Lynn. Buffalo is among six teams currently searching for a new coach, alongside the Raiders, Browns, Steelers, Ravens, and Cardinals.
