Commerce Secretary Celebrates Al Gore’s Reaction at Davos
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick expressed on Thursday that being booed by former Vice President Al Gore was the “greatest honor” he received while attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
“What’s better than Al Gore? Well, he can’t really speak and doesn’t seem to be able to do much,” Lutnick remarked during an appearance on Fox News’ “Jesse Watters Prime Time.”
He then brought up Gore’s past prediction about the ice sheets, recalling how Gore claimed that by now, in 2025, they would be gone and Greenland would be lush and green.
Lutnick, who’s 64, made headlines earlier in the week during a panel discussion when he stated that “globalization has failed the West, particularly America.” He emphasized, “American workers have been left behind,” advocating for a model that prioritizes American workers, which he termed “America First.”
He further stirred controversy by criticizing European nations for adopting green energy policies that he believes make them “subservient to China.”
During the same segment, he expressed his thoughts on a panel he described as being predominantly left-leaning. “It seemed like they were pushing for a new form of capitalism—almost like a roundabout way of promoting communism,” he said, adding that he was allowed to speak last.
Reflecting on his experience, he recounted how, at the end of his speech, one individual in the crowd, out of roughly 200 people, yelled “Boo!” and upon looking around, he realized it was Al Gore. “I just thought, really?” Lutnick said, amused by the moment.
“Honestly, it was the highlight of my time in Davos,” he remarked.
In response, Gore acknowledged that he reacted based on his feelings about Lutnick’s comments. A source indicated that Gore had expressed his disapproval vocally as Trump Cabinet members were leaving the stage, perhaps as a way to unsettle Lutnick.
