Fernando Mendoza Hints at NFL Future
Fernando Mendoza has recently expressed enthusiasm for potentially joining the NFL, specifically the Las Vegas Raiders. On Friday, during an appearance on the “TODAY Show,” he officially declared for the 2026 NFL Draft. It seems the Raiders are eyeing him as their No. 1 overall pick.
Following a standout season with the Indiana Hoosiers, who finished with a perfect 16-0 record, Mendoza is likely to make Sin City his new home. When asked by host Craig Melvin about his preferred team, the quarterback delivered a polished response.
“I’d be blessed wherever I play. Being the No. 1 pick is a huge blessing, but honestly, any pick is a great blessing,” he remarked. “There’s only one team that believes in me, so no matter who it is, I’ll give them my all.”
Even though Mendoza’s response was humble, Melvin pushed further by inviting fellow co-host and Raiders fan Carson Daly for a quick chat. Dressed in team colors, Daly shared his hopes for Mendoza.
“The Raiders have a great culture, a strong coaching staff, and committed ownership,” Mendoza noted. “I’d be pleased to end up there.”
To this, Daly jokingly said, “I’m sorry if you end up with us,” prompting laughter from Melvin and a playful shake of Mendoza’s head.
Daly continued, “If you win three games or more, you’ll be a hero. We have talented players you can work with. If you land there, we’ll support you.”
Despite the positivity, the Raiders have some work ahead of them this offseason, specifically naming a new head coach after firing Pete Carroll following a rough 3-14 season. Mendoza’s optimism is clear, especially since both Raiders owner Mark Davis and minority owner Tom Brady witnessed his recent victory in the NCAA title game.
As for coaching prospects, Seahawks offensive coordinator Clint Kubiak is being speculated as a likely candidate for the job.
