Justin Thomas Criticizes NCAA and Current State of College Sports
Two-time major champion Justin Thomas has expressed his frustration with college sports, specifically targeting the NCAA for its impact on the landscape.
In a recent post, Thomas, 32, didn’t delve into specific incidents but seemed generally discontent with how things are unfolding in college athletics. This sentiment coincides with ongoing controversies surrounding his alma mater, the University of Alabama.
The Alabama men’s basketball team is in the spotlight again, having welcomed former standout Charles Bediako back into their fold after he declared for the 2023 NBA Draft. Bediako spent two seasons at Alabama, earning a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team in his first year and making the SEC All-Defensive Team in his second.
Bediako ultimately waived his remaining eligibility to enter the NBA Draft but went undrafted. He later signed a two-way contract with the San Antonio Spurs. Despite not having played in an NBA game yet, he has competed with teams in the G League.
Interestingly, Bediako sought to return to Alabama, claiming he still had eligibility left. However, the university declined his request, leading Bediako to sue the NCAA for the denial. He was able to secure a temporary restraining order that permitted him to play for a limited time.
A Tuscaloosa Circuit Court judge’s ruling allowed him to rejoin the Alabama team, though it’s still unclear if he will officially be added to the roster.
