Patel announces Alejandro Rosales Castillo's return to North Carolina

FBI Captures Fugitive Accused of 2016 Murder

FBI Director Kash Patel announced on Friday that a suspect wanted for a brutal murder has arrived in Charlotte, North Carolina, to face trial. This event marks a notable achievement for law enforcement, with two fugitives from the FBI’s Most Wanted list returned to U.S. custody within a matter of hours.

Alejandro “Alex” Rosales Castillo was apprehended in Mexico last week. He is believed to have murdered his former co-worker, Chuc Quang “Sandy” Lee Lee, who was just 23 years old at the time. Patel shared this information during a news conference in Charlotte on Friday afternoon, noting that Castillo had been evading capture for nearly ten years.

The collaboration between the FBI and Mexican authorities played a critical role in facilitating Castillo’s transfer to Charlotte law enforcement.

Shortly after Castillo’s arrival in Los Angeles, Patel announced the capture of another fugitive, former Canadian Olympic snowboarder Ryan Wedding.

“Thanks to the resources and leadership provided by President Trump’s administration, we’ve seen significant successes lately,” Patel stated. “To rescue two of the FBI’s most wanted fugitives in one day is truly historic.”

He added, “I think this might be a unique occurrence; I’m not sure if it will happen again.”

Castillo is implicated in the murder of Lee Lee, whose body was found in a wooded area in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, back in August 2016. Her car was later discovered abandoned at a bus stop in Phoenix, Arizona, and Castillo was identified on video footage crossing the U.S.-Mexico border from Nogales, Arizona, the following day. A federal arrest warrant for him was issued in February 2017, and he was added to the Most Wanted Fugitive List on October 24, 2017.

“Sandy Lee Lee was a bright, first-generation college graduate with her whole future ahead of her,” Patel expressed in a post. “Although her family can never have her back, I hope this helps their healing process, knowing her killer will face justice. Today is significant for law and order in America.”

He concluded with a warning: “If you harm the American people, justice will come for you.”

Patel encouraged the public to recognize the hard work of law enforcement officers, saying, “I ask the community to appreciate those who serve. They work tirelessly but often go unnoticed.”
