Jennifer Kesse has been missing for 20 years following her disappearance in Orlando

20 Years After Disappearance, Family Remains Hopeful

Two decades after Jennifer Kesey vanished, her parents remain hopeful, thanks to advancements in technology that have renewed their search efforts. Every day, they continue their quest for answers concerning their daughter.

Jennifer was just 24 years old when she went missing on January 24, 2006, in Orlando, Florida, after failing to arrive at work. In an interview marking the anniversary, her parents, Drew and Joyce Kesey, expressed that time hasn’t provided them with the closure they desperately seek.

“We are looking for Jennifer almost every day,” they shared. “It seems like forever. We still feel like we’re in a state of unreality.”

Fresh Evidence Sparks Renewed Investigation

Jennifer’s car was discovered about a mile from her residence. Surveillance footage captured a person of interest parking, though their face wasn’t visible.

Drew recalled that as soon as Jennifer didn’t answer her work call, he instinctively tried to reach her. Her phone, however, went straight to voicemail, a red flag that made him uneasy. “I knew right away that something was wrong,” he said.

Upon driving two hours from their home in Tampa to Orlando, the Kesses found their daughter’s apartment vacant, with some clothes left on her bed. They promptly reported her missing to the Orlando Police Department (OPD).

Unfortunately, the police’s initial response wasn’t reassuring. “They looked around, shrugged, and said, ‘She probably had a fight with her boyfriend, she’ll probably come back,’” Drew recalled. That moment remains painful, as he believes that was Jennifer’s last chance at being found safely.

In pursuing justice, the Kesses later sued the OPD for access to Jennifer’s extensive case file, which spans over 16,000 pages. They describe the experience as exhausting, both mentally and emotionally, and it has taken a toll on their health over the years.

Currently, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is overseeing the investigation, and the Kesses are looking into new ways to gather clues—like collaborating with an AI firm to sift through the files and analyze surveillance video. They hope to zero in on identifying the person of interest by examining unique physical traits, particularly ears, which Drew believes could provide essential information about the suspect.

Last year, new DNA samples were also tested. Investigators have reported that they are closer than ever to identifying several individuals they need to interview.

Throughout the heart-wrenching journey, Jennifer’s parents have maintained their belief that she was abducted shortly after her disappearance. “Personally, I still believe that Jennifer was immediately taken from the area,” Drew reflected. He suspects she was targeted, perhaps due to feelings of loneliness.

Now nearing 70, the Kesses are unwavering in their commitment to find their daughter. “Until I die,” Joyce declared, emphasizing their resolve to keep searching, no matter the challenges.

Anyone with information about Jennifer Kesey’s disappearance is encouraged to contact the FDLE Orlando office at (407) 245-0888 or email OROCColdCaseTips@fdle.state.fl.us.

Despite the emotional toll, Drew and Joyce’s fight continues, marked by both sorrow and an unyielding hope for resolution.
