DHS: Federal agent shoots armed suspect in Minneapolis after suspect violently resists disarming effort

Shooting Incident In Minneapolis Involving Federal Agents

The Department of Homeland Security reported that a suspect was shot and killed by federal agents in Minneapolis on Saturday. They described the suspect as having “violently resisted” efforts to disarm him.

During the incident, one firearm and two magazines were recovered at the scene.

A statement from DHS mentioned that at 9:05 AM, officers were engaged in a targeted operation concerning an illegal alien suspected of violent assault. An individual approached a U.S. Border Patrol officer brandishing a 9mm semi-automatic handgun.

“Officers tried to disarm the suspect, but he violently resisted,” DHS explained. “Fearing for his life and the safety of his colleagues, an agent fired in defense. Medics on the scene provided immediate medical assistance, but the suspect was pronounced dead at the location.”

According to DHS, “The suspect was found with two magazines and no identification. It appears this individual aimed to inflict maximum harm and chaos on law enforcement.”

Furthermore, DHS noted that a crowd of around 200 people converged at the scene, obstructing law enforcement and leading to crowd control measures for everyone’s safety.

In response to the shooting, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Democratic Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith used the incident to advocate for the removal of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents from Minnesota.

Walz commented after talking to the White House, expressing disgust at the situation: “This is unacceptable. The President needs to put an end to these operations and remove thousands of violent, untrained officers from Minnesota. Now.”

Klobuchar called for action, stating, “To the Trump administration and Congressional Republicans who remain silent: Get ICE out of your states now.”

Smith added, “This is yet another tragic shooting incident involving federal agents in Minneapolis. ICE must evacuate immediately so that local police can secure the area and execute their duties.”

In light of the shooting, the Border Patrol union proposed that the incident was likely defensive, highlighting concerns about the inflammatory language perpetuated by politicians and liberal media recently.

The union emphasized, “Border Patrol agents are highly trained to defend themselves and innocent parties. When so-called ‘peaceful’ protestors arrive armed with weapons, serious consequences will follow. We’ve been warning that careless and hateful rhetoric from the media and politicians could lead to unnecessary injuries or fatalities.” They added that this environment fosters reckless confrontations against agents performing their lawful duties.

This is an evolving story, and more updates might emerge.
