Denise Austin Celebrates Nearly 40 Years in Fitness
Denise Austin is marking almost four decades in the fitness world, demonstrating that dedication yields results. Now at 68, this iconic figure in fitness recently shared a striking comparison of her earlier days and her present self.
She posted side-by-side images: one from her VHS cover shoots in the late 1980s and another from her recent magazine cover for “Fit Over 50: Vitality for Life.” It’s quite the transformation, or rather, a testament to her enduring presence.
“Then and now! Here I am in 1988. The ‘then’ photo is from one of my first VHS shoots and the ‘now’ photo is from my latest cover shoot! So much fun!” Austin shared on Instagram.
In one of the images, she wears a classic white swimsuit with a front zipper, revealing how her look has remained remarkably consistent over 30 years.
“I have so many wonderful memories from my years in the fitness industry! I feel truly satisfied because I love what I do!” she added.
Austin explained that her viral post wasn’t merely for showcasing her achievements but aimed to exemplify what genuine consistency looks like.
She believes these photos serve as a reminder that enduring results come from day-to-day commitment rather than fleeting trends. Nostalgia resonates deeply with her; she’s preserved many of her outfits from her training days, and they’re making a comeback of sorts.
“I’ve kept all my leotards from the ’80s and ’90s, which I used to wear in videos and shows,” she laughed. “I’m really glad I did. My daughter Katie loves wearing them, and so does my other daughter, Kelly.”
For Austin, being active in her 60s transcends appearances; it’s about feeling independent and energized. “This shows that even at 68, I can maintain my fitness,” she said. “Just keep moving and working out. It’s all about feeling good for me.”
Healthcare, in her view, should always take precedence, regardless of one’s financial status. “I want to be healthy,” she affirmed. “Having money means nothing if you’re not fit. Everyone must prioritize their own health.”
Austin encourages simple movements, emphasizing that even standing burns more calories than sitting still. “I tell people to keep moving throughout the day. If you’re on a call, try walking while you talk. The more you move, the better your circulation will be, benefiting your overall health.”
With a career that has shaped home fitness, Austin has hosted a top exercise show for 24 years, sold over 25 million fitness tapes and DVDs, solidifying her legacy in the industry.
