Melanie Chisholm on Parenting Away from the Spotlight

Melanie “Mel” C. Chisholm expressed her gratitude towards Spice Girls member Victoria Beckham for maintaining a low profile while raising her daughter amidst a family feud involving her son, Brooklyn.

During a recent conversation, Chisholm shared insights about her 16-year-old daughter, Scarlett, and revealed that Scarlett is not interested in pursuing a career in music like her mother.

“I was so relieved!” Chisholm recounted, speaking in a Sunday Times interview. “It’s difficult for kids to be in the shadow of successful parents. In Scarlett’s case, at least she’s not under the public scrutiny. I made an intentional choice to keep her out of the spotlight when she was young.”

While she didn’t name Victoria directly, Chisholm acknowledged that some friends handle similar situations quite differently. “I have friends who manage these challenges in various ways, and that’s perfectly fine,” she noted. “But for me, given my own experiences with fame, I just felt uncomfortable making that choice for my daughter.”

Her relationship with former bandmates Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell-Horner, and Mel B also varies. “Like any friendship, it goes through phases,” she said, adding, “Emma and I have always been particularly close.”

Recently, the Spice Girls celebrated Emma’s 50th birthday, where Chisholm joined the festivities, though Mel B was absent.

Victoria looked elegant at the party, sharing her love for her friends on Instagram: “Happy birthday to the most beautiful soul @emmaleebunton, I love you guys so much @gerihalliwellhorner @melaniecmusic xxxxxxx.”

Meanwhile, the Beckham family has faced tensions following Brooklyn’s public remarks criticizing his parents, implying they’ve controlled the narrative around their family and even strained his marriage to Nicola Peltz. In an emotional post, he expressed a desire to avoid reconciliation.

Brooklyn accused his parents of meddling in his marriage and claimed there were inappropriate moments at their wedding. Victoria and David have not publicly responded, but their other children continue to show support for each other. Cruz, 20, was spotted on a double date in Paris with his brother Romeo, 23, during Fashion Week. Their youngest sibling, Harper, 14, also showed her support for Romeo, commending his runway performance at a recent show.
