General Hospital Star Criticizes Carrie Underwood
Nancy Lee Grahn, known for her role in “General Hospital,” has expressed her decision to stop watching Carrie Underwood, the American Idol star, following Underwood’s performance during President Donald Trump’s inauguration last year.
Recently, Underwood appeared alongside fellow American Idol judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” to promote the show’s upcoming season. In a post, Grahn stated, “See you next week @jimmykimmel. I refuse to even look at @carrieunderwood.”
While Grahn didn’t elaborate on her reasoning, her words sparked comments from various users, including comedian Kathy Griffin, who suggested that Underwood might be too aligned with Trump for many liberal followers. Griffin remarked, “I’m looking at you! Yeah, there’s no love in Carrie. It’s not just about political disagreements anymore.”
As the post gained traction, Grahn followed up to clarify her original intent, specifying that her frustration wasn’t directed at Kimmel and she had her reasons for not wanting to see Underwood that night. She stated, “The truth matters. I love Jimmy Kimmel and watch him every night. I’m not trying to ‘blame’ him in any way… So come on guys, I’m not worth the stupid clickbait.”
A month prior, Grahn had shared a video of Don Lemon, responding to Underwood’s previous comments about the Affordable Care Act at the 2013 Country Music Awards, suggesting he was a “MAGA.” In her post, she noted, “I thought everyone knew Carrie Underwood was MAGA. She’s definitely American, but she’s definitely not an idol.”
Fox News Digital has reached out to representatives for Underwood but hasn’t received a response. Underwood has previously faced backlash for performing “America the Beautiful” at Trump’s second inauguration in 2025.
Underwood herself stated she was “honored” to be invited to sing at the inauguration, despite her general apolitical stance. She mentioned, “I love this country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the inauguration… I’m humbled to answer this call at a time when we all need to come together in a spirit of unity and look to the future.”
After some technical issues, when Underwood ultimately performed the song a cappella, it received positive feedback on social media.
