San Francisco Zoo Sees Surge in T-Shirt Sales Due to K-Pop Stars
The San Francisco Zoo is experiencing an overwhelming influx of orders for safari T-shirts, all because members of the K-Pop group Twice were seen wearing them. Fans are eager to grab these vintage-style shirts after Jeongyeon, a member of the group, shared a video showcasing their visit.
Since the video was posted, the zoo has reportedly run out of stock, selling at least 500 shirts a day. It’s remarkable how quickly interest can spike, right? The zoo even thanked the group in a statement, saying, “Thanks to you, it’s now a thing!”
The sudden demand started just after Jeongyeon shared moments from their visit, which featured not just the beloved animals but also a fun group photo of the trio in matching T-shirts. The shirt, priced at $27.99, pictures various animals from the zoo and was only available before in the gift shop.
In light of the high demand, the zoo has decided to place these shirts in a limited online gift shop—adding a child-sized option to meet requests. They had to wait for inventory to catch up, so pre-orders were offered only starting Monday.
It’s interesting, really—the trio’s visit coincided with their world tour, and they took a break after two sold-out shows in Oakland. Although Twice was already quite popular, their recent hit song “Strategy” has certainly propelled them even further into the spotlight.
Fans will be pleased to know that a portion of the T-shirt sales will go toward the zoo’s animal protection efforts, which benefit over 2,000 exotic and endangered animals. This buzz follows a similar frenzy caused by Taylor Swift that generated $2.3 million for the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It’s amazing how a little celebrity influence can lead to such positive outcomes, don’t you think?
Just last October, Swift’s followers made significant donations after a vintage t-shirt advocating for otter conservation was re-released. It was quite the success, reaching a goal of $1.3 million in under eight hours.
