Melissa Gilbert Reacts to Timothy Busfield’s Indictment

Melissa Gilbert has taken to social media to express her feelings regarding her husband, Timothy Busfield, who has recently been indicted in a child sexual abuse case.

Busfield, aged 68, turned himself in on January 13 in New Mexico. He faces serious charges, including two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and one count of child abuse, and was held without bail at the time of his arrest.

In her post on the Modern Prairie Instagram page, Gilbert conveyed her gratitude and love during what she described as an “extremely difficult time.” She mentioned that it feels like many, including their family, are bearing a heavy burden. “I think the unexpected storm just adds to the weight of it all,” she wrote.

Defense Claims Against Allegations

Gilbert shared a reflective photo of herself, seemingly lost in thought while enjoying tea, with her wedding ring visible. She emphasized how this season has reminded her to slow down and prioritize what truly matters. “Sometimes, stepping back from everything allows you the space to recharge and find your center again,” she noted.

She expressed her appreciation for the support from fans, saying it makes her feel safer and more grounded. “I will take things one step at a time,” Gilbert added, indicating that there would be more to share in the future.

During a recent hearing regarding Busfield’s case, Gilbert appeared visibly emotional, especially when a judge ordered his release from custody while awaiting trial. The arrest warrants were issued on January 9, according to reports gathered by various outlets.

Busfield’s legal troubles began following a report from a doctor at the University of New Mexico Hospital, who alerted authorities to potential sexual abuse on November 1, 2024. He is currently facing two counts of sexual contact with a minor and one count of child abuse, with the potential for extensive prison time if convicted.

New Mexico law stipulates that each count of criminal sexual contact can bring a sentence of up to six years, while child abuse could lead to three years. If found guilty, Busfield could face a total of 15 years in prison. He has denied all charges against him.
