Knicks Players Respond to Minnesota Shootings

New York Knicks players Karl-Anthony Towns and Gershon Yabusele recently expressed their outrage over a tragic shooting involving Border Patrol in Minnesota that occurred over the weekend. Both players condemned the actions taken by federal agents in Minneapolis, which left two individuals dead—Alex Preti on Saturday and Renee Good earlier this month.

Towns took to social media to share his thoughts. He described the events as “heartbreaking” and highlighted the toll such violence takes on families. “What is happening in the Twin Cities and the Great North Star State is heartbreaking to witness. These events are costing lives and upsetting families, and we must demand accountability, transparency, and protection for all,” he remarked. He mentioned his support for the families of those affected, declaring, “Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest sympathies go out to the families of Renee Good and Alex Preti.” Towns also emphasized his solidarity with the people of Minnesota. It’s worth noting, he previously played for the Minnesota Timberwolves before joining the Knicks.

Yabusele also shared his strong feelings on the matter, stating, “I can’t help but think about the tragic events that are happening in Minnesota. Even if I’m French, I can’t stay silent. What’s going on is beyond comprehension. We’re talking about murder here, and this is a serious problem. Things have to change.” He echoed Towns’ sentiment by expressing his support for Minnesota, criticizing the government’s approach.

Their statements come in light of a broader condemnation from the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA), which stands firmly against the actions of the Border Patrol. The NBPA declared that NBA players must no longer remain silent following this latest incident in Minneapolis. They emphasized the need to protect free speech and support those who are protesting and seeking justice in Minnesota.

The union further extended its condolences to the families of the deceased, affirming a commitment to community and solidarity amid turmoil, stating, “The NBA player fraternity, like America itself, is a community enriched by global citizens, and we will not allow the flames of division to threaten the civil liberties that are supposed to protect us all.” The message was clear: the situation requires attention and change.
