What Led to Alex Pretti's Death Is Clear

Hey there, Reader,

Today, let’s get right into it.

WHAT HAPPENED TO PRETTI GOOD

I find myself relating to Alex Pretti.

I recently got my concealed carry permit, living just outside of Washington, D.C.—a place that has seen a surge in crime until, well, let’s just say things changed. There’s a sense of vulnerability; I’ve been doxxed a couple of times for my job. It’s unsettling.

In some of these urban areas, it feels almost like there’s a green light for those with a liberal viewpoint to act aggressively against conservatives. If you’re outspokenly liberal, it seems like the laws bend your way. Sadly, if you’re a minority or undocumented, the consequences can be significantly lighter, regardless of the crime. It’s troubling.

Continually witnessing this for over a decade has left a mark. Liberals have largely controlled the narrative surrounding acts of violence—using their influence over accountability and sentencing to suppress dissent. It’s astonishing how often they ignored the chaos wrought by these groups, who at times even claimed parts of cities, effectively sidelining law enforcement.

In the wake of high-profile incidents, especially after attempts on Trump’s life, a noticeable shift began. The vitriol from certain quarters over such events marked a turning point for many, transitioning from shocked silence to what almost felt like enjoyment among some when violence against political figures occurred.

This scrutiny now glaringly fell on those who had championed cancel culture and silencing tactics. Professors, teachers, and various professionals faced consequences, some losing their jobs.

Pretti was a nurse at a VA hospital—essentially your everyday person caught in extraordinary circumstances.

Who could fault him for wanting to be armed in a city like Minneapolis? With the police force struggling to regain its footing after the George Floyd protests, it would make sense to protect oneself. Many local leaders even advocated for dismantling the police entirely, leading to increased crime that impacted everyday citizens.

However, getting into a spat, especially when armed, is a different matter altogether. It’s a dangerous gamble, one that too often can escalate quickly. Engagements like that can lead to tragic outcomes, something one would typically want to avoid unless absolutely necessary.

I’m not here to dissect the exact moments of Pretti’s shooting; it’s clear he was shot by law enforcement. The chaotic nature of the situation is heartbreaking, and while many would label it a “bad shoot,” the blame for the incident essentially lies with Pretti himself, who intervened while armed.

This move can be seen as obstruction, especially considering he drew attention to himself at a volatile moment. Officers yelled “gun!” during their attempt to subdue him, and a struggle ensued, leading to an unintentional discharge of a firearm.

There’s certainly discussion around the reliability of the gun involved, and it’s been pointed out that it has a history of malfunctioning. It’s plausible that Pretti could have faced issues with it under pressure.

While I acknowledge that corrupt officers exist and the system is flawed, the facts are clear in this case, especially given the footage available. In high-stakes scenarios, officers prioritize public safety, and opening fire in a crowded area is one of their greatest challenges.

What happened with Pretti is tragic and unlikely to lead to criminal charges against anyone involved.

Many on the left may need to confront the reality that they don’t have a monopoly on violence or the moral high ground they often claim. Celebrating or hoping for violence against anyone—including political figures—simply isn’t justified, and neither is intervening in lawful arrests.

What struck me as particularly ironic is that Pretti advocated for “due process” for those in the country illegally, yet felt compelled to act when that due process was being applied.

No reasonable person would instigate a confrontation with armed federal officers in such a tense environment while also carrying a weapon.

The essence of what led to Alex Pretti’s fate can, regrettably, be traced back to a distorted mindset—a collectivist mentality that often overlooks the dangers present when challenging law enforcement.

The affirmation they often receive from their peers can create a dangerous cycle, leading one to believe that confrontation is noble.

After his passing, what seemed to emerge was little more than an empty display of political grief as his death became fodder for various agendas. Meanwhile, actual mourning for Pretti seemed overshadowed by the ramifications of that loss.

I’ll be keeping his family in my thoughts, and I hope you might join me in doing so.
