Trump Comments on Noem’s Position Amid Criticism
President Trump addressed the press on Tuesday regarding Kristi Noem’s position at the Department of Homeland Security, asserting he has no plans to question her role. When asked specifically about her potential resignation, he replied quickly and definitively, “No.”
During this exchange outside the White House, Trump praised Noem’s performance, particularly her efforts in border control, stating he believed she was doing a “very good job.” However, her recent challenges have sparked backlash, notably after federal agents were involved in the deaths of two Americans in Minnesota earlier this month.
Senator John Fetterman from Pennsylvania has been vocal, urging Trump to dismiss Noem. In a post on X, he accused her of straying from the department’s core mission, claiming her actions have caused harm.
Fetterman specifically wrote, “I am appealing directly to Congresswoman Noem to be immediately removed from office.” He expressed concern about the fatalities and suggested she has undermined border security efforts, comparing her situation to that of President Biden’s former DHS secretary, whom he felt should have been replaced.
Interestingly, Fetterman usually adopts a more pragmatic stance regarding Trump and the Republicans, particularly on immigration issues. Recently, he has encouraged his party to steer clear of calls to eliminate U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The recent shooting incidents involving Americans Alex Preti and Renee Good have amplified frustrations, as the Trump administration intensifies its crackdown on illegal immigration nationwide. Fetterman lamented that these families are now grieving unnecessarily and stated the operation in Minneapolis should cease immediately, describing the city as a “dangerous urban war zone.”
