Tom Brady deems the Hall of Fame omission of Bill Belichick 'utterly absurd'

Tom Brady Reacts to Belichick’s Hall of Fame Snub

Tom Brady, reflecting on Bill Belichick’s surprising omission from the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility, expressed utter confusion. “I don’t get it. I mean, I was with him every single day. If he’s not a first-ballot Hall of Famer, then who really deserves it? It’s just absurd; he deserves it,” the quarterback shared during a radio interview on Seattle Sports.

Brady, who celebrated six Super Bowl victories alongside Belichick, declared, “He’s fantastic. There’s no other coach I’d want to play for. If I had a choice for just one season to win a Super Bowl, I’d choose Bill Belichick. That’s all it takes.”

Belichick, a coach with eight Super Bowl titles to his name, failed to garner 40 of the 50 votes required for induction into Canton next year, which astonished many in the sporting world. Numerous prominent NFL figures, including Patrick Mahomes, Jimmie Johnson, and J.J. Watt, have voiced criticism and urged for the identities of the voters who overlooked Belichick to be revealed.

Adding to the controversy, Bill Polian, a former Colts executive and part of the Hall of Fame voting committee, faced significant backlash for the anonymous voting process. He had reportedly suggested some voters hold off on casting their votes for Belichick due to the Spygate scandal. Spygate refers to the 2007 incident where the Patriots were caught illegally filming the Jets’ signals, leading to penalties, including a first-round draft pick loss and fines for both the team and coach.

Despite the ongoing drama, Brady said he’s “not too worried” about Belichick’s eventual induction into the Hall of Fame. “Welcome to the world of voting; it’s all about popularity and various factors that matter. It’s a bit like trying for an Oscar with a big committee deciding your worth. But really, I’m not concerned. He will get in eventually,” Brady remarked.

He acknowledged life’s unpredictability, stating, “There are moments for all of us when things don’t unfold the way we expect or when we want them. But when it finally happens for him, we’ll all celebrate together. There will be a huge crowd, players and coaches who genuinely appreciate his impact and commitment. It’s going to be an incredible celebration.”

Brady, who announced his retirement in 2023, will become eligible for the Hall of Fame in two years. He’s currently in his second season serving as Fox’s lead NFL game analyst.
