Belichick’s Hall of Fame Snub Surprises Brady

Tom Brady, along with many in the NFL, expressed confusion and disappointment upon discovering that Bill Belichick wouldn’t be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on the first ballot.

Despite boasting eight Super Bowl rings, Belichick reportedly received a mixed reception. He needed to secure 40 out of 50 votes to be eligible for the honor in Canton, Ohio, but fell short.

Brady, who won six Super Bowls with Belichick during their time together with the New England Patriots, voiced his disbelief. “I don’t understand it,” he remarked on his show, “Block & Soak Morning,” in Seattle. “If he’s not a first-ballot Hall of Famer, then who is? It seems totally unfair, as he deserves that recognition.”

He continued, saying he finds it all quite ridiculous, almost like a film awards ceremony where a big committee decides on merit. Brady is confident that Belichick’s time will come. “He’s going to be in the Hall of Fame,” he asserted. “Things might not happen right away—the way we hope—but eventually, he will be celebrated by all those who understand his contributions to the game.”

It remains unclear who was responsible for excluding him from the ballot. The official announcement of the Class of 2026 is expected next week, just before Super Bowl LX. Belichick is part of a candidate group that includes notable names like Ken Anderson, Roger Craig, and Robert Kraft, which is separate from the modern player category.

Reportedly, Belichick felt “perplexed” and “disappointed” by the outcome, wondering what more he needed to achieve to secure first-ballot honors. A source indicated that political factors may have played a role in the decision, suggesting that Belichick does not view this as a true reflection of his achievements.
