Georgia Assistant Principal Arrested for Shoplifting
In a surprising turn of events, an assistant principal from a Georgia elementary school, Courtney Janelle Shaw, was arrested last Monday. This came after investigations into a series of alleged shoplifting incidents at Walmart. Reports indicate that around $1,000 worth of merchandise was taken through a discreet method involving a self-checkout kiosk.
The 47-year-old was caught on security cameras stacking various items and scanning only one before leaving the store. She faces a charge of felony shoplifting and was booked into the Cherokee County Jail but was released the same day on a $4,875 bail, according to local sources.
Authorities have stated that Shaw stole a total of 98 items valued at $943.97 between November and December of the previous year.
Freehome Elementary School in Cherokee County has since announced that Shaw, a veteran educator with two decades of experience and a mother of one, has been placed on administrative leave.
The school district commented, “As soon as these allegations were reported, the employee was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal and law enforcement investigation.” They emphasized the importance of maintaining safety and security for students and staff, stating that “inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated.”
Details began to emerge on January 12 when a Walmart employee provided surveillance footage to the police, which reportedly showed Shaw in the act of stealing items. Just two days later, investigators were able to confirm her identity using a driver’s license database.
Additionally, two vehicles seen in the footage—a 2018 Ford F-150 and a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee—were linked to Shaw and later found at her residence. Shaw began her role as assistant principal at Freehome Elementary School in 2024. Her extensive background in education includes previous leadership positions at two other elementary schools.
