Bo Nix Discusses Ankle Injury
Bo Nix wants to clarify something about his recent ankle injury: it was bound to happen.
This statement came after Broncos head coach Sean Payton commented that Nix was “susceptible” to such injuries, particularly regarding the fracture he experienced during the playoffs. Nix, however, emphasized that there was no prior condition that led to this injury. “It could have been a lot worse,” he explained. “I just stepped with my foot in the air, my weight came down, and it twisted.”
Nix noted that the force from the fall was concentrated in one area. Interestingly, Payton revealed during a press conference that, following Nix’s surgery in Alabama, it became evident that this type of injury was a matter of “when,” rather than “if.” Historically, Nix had faced ankle issues in both high school and college.
“They always find something more when they do a deeper examination,” Payton remarked. “When I watched the play and evaluated it, the surgeon confirmed something like this was going to happen eventually.” According to a report, doctors found Nix’s bones were under stress, but there were no indications of chronic issues.
While Nix expressed some frustration about his coach sharing details of his past injuries, he feels confident about his recovery, which he estimates will take four to six weeks.
Nix had suffered the injury during an overtime match against the Bills and was replaced by backup Jarrett Stidham in a subsequent home game loss. Stidham struggled during a snow-laden game, only managing 133 yards alongside one touchdown and one interception.
“Even when you’re sidelined, life goes on,” Nix reflected about missing the opportunity to play for a Super Bowl. “That’s what’s tough. You feel you’ve worked hard for it.” He added, perhaps nostalgically, that he just misses being out there.
