Bill Belichick's snub leads to Jimmy Johnson's decision to skip HOF ceremony

NFL Legend Jimmie Johnson Skips Hall of Fame Induction

NFL legend Jimmie Johnson has decided not to attend this year’s Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony. This follows his removal from the 2026 class by Bill Belichick after he was nominated for the first time.

Johnson expressed his outrage over this decision. Reports indicate he took to social media on Wednesday to sway voters in his favor. It’s hard to understand how someone as impactful as Johnson would face such an issue, right?

He further clarified his plans on “The Pat McAfee Show,” stating, “I thought it was going to be automatic, so I was going to charter a jet and go there. Hell, I’m not going this year.” Johnson shared how he’s now set up multiple TVs at home to enjoy the game, indicating he’ll be watching closely but not in person.

Rob Gronkowski referred to Belichick’s snub as “ridiculous,” which only adds to the conversation about what constitutes greatness in the NFL.

In discussing Belichick, Johnson commented on his appreciation for his greatness as a coach. “I love football and I appreciate greatness. That’s the greatness of Bill Belichick,” he said. It’s kind of funny how opinions differ on who deserves these honors. Belichick required 40 votes for first-ballot induction and has a storied history with six Super Bowl wins with the New England Patriots.

Interestingly, at least one voter revealed why Belichick was taken off the ballot, but details remain scarce for now. The official Class of 2026 announcement is planned for next week, coinciding with Super Bowl LX. Belichick was part of a group of candidates, including Ken Anderson and Roger Craig, separate from the modern player category.

Reportedly, Belichick felt “perplexed” and “disappointed,” questioning what further achievements are necessary for recognition. It’s puzzling, isn’t it? Another source mentioned that politics may have played a role in this decision, suggesting it doesn’t accurately reflect his accomplishments.
