Klobuchar campaigns for Minnesota governor with an anti-ICE stance

Klobuchar Announces Run for Governor of Minnesota

Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar has officially launched her campaign for governor of Minnesota. This announcement came through a well-produced video released on Thursday, coinciding with the exit of current Democratic Governor Tim Walz from the race.

Klobuchar highlighted the state’s significant divisions but also spoke of the need for unity. However, she put a strong emphasis on federal immigration enforcement as a pivotal issue garnering voter attention.

“I’m running for every Minnesotan who wants to drive ICE and its abusive tactics out of the state we love,” she stated, echoing sentiments she’s expressed frequently on the Senate floor as Minnesota faces a rise in federal immigration actions.

In a recent address, she called for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to withdraw from Minnesota, condemning Congress for their attempts to fund expanded ICE operations.

Klobuchar expressed concern over the increase in federal agents in Minnesota communities, arguing that their presence “makes us less safe.” She believes the addition of thousands of agents is creating more tension instead of enhancing public safety.

She also criticized a federal operation following the shooting death of Renee Good, stating that it was being enacted “against the wishes of local leaders” and that such enforcement was undermining Minnesota’s community stability.

More criticism has come her way related to a legislative proposal she doesn’t support, which would boost funding for ICE without further restrictions and “double down” on enforcement-first tactics, especially at a time when many communities are already on edge due to federal immigration operations.

In her campaign video, Klobuchar refers to the difficult times Minnesota has been through, mentioning several violent incidents, including the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Preti, which occurred amid unrest linked to federal immigration enforcement.

Moreover, she condemned the 3,000 federal immigration agents operating within Minnesota, accusing the administration of “reveling in division.” Klobuchar has made the case that enforcement actions in Minneapolis endanger community safety.

She concluded her remarks by asserting that Minnesota deserves a leader capable of standing up to the Trump administration while still working towards shared solutions at the state level.
