Eagles news puts Hunter Brody in a tough spot

Concerns Grow Over Philadelphia Eagles’ Offensive Coordinator Search

In Philadelphia, there’s a noticeable tension brewing around the Eagles’ search for a new offensive coordinator.

However, not everyone agrees. Sports radio 94WIP host Hunter Brody expressed frustration during a recent night show, stating that head coach Nick Sirianni’s laid-back approach to filling the role—highlighted by his own experience calling plays—seems to be dragging on. “I’m pissed it’s taking so long,” Brody exclaimed, emphasizing that this hire is critical. He specifically mentioned how he expected the transition to move from Kevin Pattullo, who he described as, well, not very competent, to top candidates like Brian Daboll and Mike McDaniel.

Brody’s response to a report from Adam Schefter takes a more intense turn as he claimed that if the Eagles can’t find a “worthwhile” offensive coordinator, perhaps Sirianni could just handle the play-calling himself. “Just hearing that makes my blood boil,” he joked, but there’s a hint of sincerity there.

The pressure intensified following the Eagles’ decision to part ways with Pattullo after a disappointing season, capped off by a loss to the 49ers in the wild-card round. Despite this, he might still remain with the team in another capacity.

Last season, the Eagles did manage to clinch the NFC East title, but fans were uneasy about the performance, as a unit that finished 17th in offensive DVOA faced boos from the home crowd.

In fact, Philadelphia had one of the lowest averages for yards per play in the NFL this past season.

With star players like Saquon Barkley, AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Jalen Hurts on the roster, there’s potential for a powerhouse offense—especially coming off a recent Super Bowl victory. So, expectations are understandably high.

Brody noted, “I think they’re lost. That’s why it’s taking forever. This isn’t a smart, strategic move.” He pointed out that the Eagles’ general manager, Howie Roseman, is bringing in various candidates to get their insights, but it’s proving difficult to secure coaching talent willing to work under Sirianni’s direction.

Reportedly, the Eagles are considering several candidates for the role, including former Miami offensive coordinator Frank Smith, Colts offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter, ex-Chiefs coordinator Matt Nagy, and Texans QB coach Jerod Johnson. Many top prospects, such as Daboll and McDaniel, have already taken other jobs in this competitive market.

If the search continues without a clear solution, Brody fears the consequences. He asked, “You want to waste another season? That’s a joke. The very idea—that it could come to Sirianni calling the plays—makes my blood boil. If that’s true, just fire Nick and start fresh, because having him fully in charge of the offense could be disastrous.”
