Budweiser’s New Super Bowl Ad Celebrates Americana
Budweiser has just unveiled a new ad for the upcoming Super Bowl, embracing a decidedly patriotic theme. This year’s commercial, named “American Icons,” coincides with the brand’s 150th anniversary, as noted in a recent news release.
The advertisement tells the story of a Clydesdale colt that forms a bond with a young bird. As the background features the classic “Free Bird” by Lynyrd Skynyrd, this unique friendship unfolds over time.
In a heartwarming moment, the narrative describes how “one day, with the help of a horse, this bird perched on the back of a Clydesdale, flapping its wings and trying to take flight.” Despite its efforts, the little bird struggles and nearby farmers, including real Budweiser barley farmer Brian Fransen, watch on with amusement at their friendship.
As the story progresses, the bird eventually transforms into a majestic bald eagle, soaring off the back of the fully grown horse—almost reminiscent of the mythical Pegasus.
“Are you crying?” one farmer quips to another, to which the reply is, “No, the sun is just in my eyes.”
The ad pays tribute to the rich American heritage associated with the brand, featuring the Budweiser Clydesdales for their 48th Super Bowl appearance. Todd Allen, Budweiser’s senior vice president of marketing, expressed the need to “rise to the occasion in a way that only Budweiser can.”
He elaborated, stating that “American Icons” brings their heritage to life through storytelling, showcasing the iconic Clydesdales alongside the symbol of America’s pride—the bald eagle.
This 60-second spot is set to air on the NFL’s biggest day. Early responses from fans have been enthusiastic. One user commented on X, “Well done Budweiser. Welcome, Americans.”
“Welcome to the Americans.”
Another viewer remarked, “If you don’t find this a bit creepy, can you really call yourself an American?” while another proposed, “Can we just skip the Super Bowl halftime show and watch this ad on repeat instead?”
Fans have clearly voiced their appreciation, with comments about the stallion being exceptional and the ad even being dubbed the best Budweiser commercial ever. Brian Downey, owner of Downey’s Bar & Grill in the Bronx, reflected, saying that the eagle ad captures the true essence of Americana—strength, pride, and a love for the country.
Taylor Rowley, a bartender in West Palm Beach, shared her admiration for the commercial, stating, “The bald eagle represents what Americans aspire to be: strong and free.”
Last year, Bud Light encountered controversy following a national boycott driven by a partnership with activist Dylan Mulvaney, which garnered significant attention. However, this new ad appears to signal a return to the roots for Budweiser.
Responses to the ad have largely been positive, with one social media user acknowledging the brand’s previous mistake and expressing forgiveness. Others simply described it as “heartwarming” and recognized it as one of the brand’s finest efforts.
