Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confesses he has Dr Pepper for breakfast

Unexpected Breakfast Choice from U.S. Treasury Secretary

In a recent interview, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent shared a rather surprising breakfast habit—it’s not your typical coffee or tea.

While discussing financial literacy and the Treasury’s role, Bessent revealed, “My deep, dark secret is that I eat Dr. Pepper for breakfast.” He then added, “It’s prohibited in homes where there are children.”

Reporter Kelly O’Grady couldn’t help but ask, “Wait, Mr. Secretary, is that your breakfast?” to which Bessent simply confirmed, “Yes.”

He joked in passing, “Don’t tell Bobby Kennedy,” referring to Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Nutritionist Whitney Stewart from Texas commented on Bessent’s choice, suggesting that Dr. Pepper is better suited as a snack rather than a breakfast staple. “As a Texas nutritionist, I truly understand the deep-seated love that Mr. Bessent has for Dr. Pepper,” she said.

While Dr. Pepper might hold a special place in Texas culture, Stewart cautioned that starting your day with soda isn’t the healthiest option. “It’s a valued part of our culture, but that doesn’t mean enjoying a soda for breakfast is the best way to start your day,” she mentioned.

According to the nutrition label, a 12-ounce can of Dr. Pepper contains 150 calories and 39 grams of carbohydrates, which is roughly 78% of your daily intake. Stewart pointed out that consuming sugary drinks in the morning can cause unpleasant blood sugar spikes and crashes, leaving people feeling famished and fatigued. Over time, she added, this could increase the risk of insulin resistance.

“Breakfast should provide our bodies with important protein and fiber to keep blood sugar levels stable and energy high,” Stewart concluded, highlighting the importance of a balanced morning meal.

Fox News Digital has reached out to both the Treasury Department and Dr. Pepper for their thoughts on this unconventional breakfast choice.
