Trevor Noah Hosts Grammy Awards for Last Time

This past Sunday, Trevor Noah kicked off the Grammy Awards for the sixth consecutive year, bringing his signature humor to the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

The former host of “The Daily Show” began his opening monologue with a special mention of Rosé Mars and Bruno Mars, who set the stage with their hit song “APT.”

“And so, the 68th Annual Grammy Awards are officially underway,” Noah announced.

As he continued, he highlighted the stars in attendance, from artists like Sabrina Carpenter and Lady Gaga to Justin Bieber and Lauryn Hill, mentioning that Hill last appeared at the Grammys back in 1999. He quipped, “Back in ’99, it was a different world—stupid scandals, people thought computers were going to take over, and Diddy got arrested.”

“Oh, how times change,” he added with a hint of sarcasm.

Noah also paid tribute to influential figures in the industry, like Queen Latifah and Jamie Foxx, while poking fun at Jeff Bezos’s extravagant wedding in Italy. “Being here feels like being at Jeff Bezos’ wedding, but with more diversity,” he said, eliciting laughter from the audience.

Additionally, he took a jab at Nicki Minaj for her past support of Donald Trump. He humorously stated, “Nicki Minaj isn’t here; she’s in the White House discussing some important matters with Trump,” before impersonating the former president with a playful twist.

As he mingled among the guests, Noah approached Justin and Hailey Bieber to cheekily inquire about any discounts they might know for makeup products.

This year’s event marks Noah’s sixth and final hosting gig for the Grammys. The show’s executive producer, Ben Winston, confirmed this would be Noah’s last appearance during a pre-show announcement. “I’m excited to bring Trevor back for one last time, even though it’s bittersweet,” he noted.

Winston revealed that convincing Noah to return was quite a task. “After last year’s gig, he expressed wanting to step aside and let someone else take over,” he said. “I even sent him a video, begging him to come back for this final year.”

Looking ahead, the Recording Academy has signed a substantial 10-year deal worth $500 million with Disney, transitioning the Grammys to ABC, Disney+, and Hulu starting in 2027. This partnership comes after a lengthy 50-year relationship with CBS.
