Jelly Roll Gives Inspiring Speech At Grammys 'Everyone Can Have A Connection With Jesus'

Country artist Jelly Roll delivered an inspiring message about faith during his acceptance speech at the recent 67th Annual Grammy Awards.

Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason Bradley Deford, gave an emotional speech after winning his third Grammy for Best Contemporary Country Album for his work, Beautiful Broken. He shared his feelings on faith and personal transformation, as reported by various sources.

“Jesus, I hear you, I’m listening, Lord,” he expressed as he stepped onto the stage.

He took a moment to thank his wife, Bunny Zaw, who was present in the audience, for her significant role in his life and spiritual journey. “If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Honestly, I’d be dead or in jail. If it wasn’t for you and Jesus, I might not have made it,” he said, also extending gratitude to his label, BBR Music Group, and country radio.

“There was a time when my heart was shattered. That’s what inspired this album. I honestly didn’t think I’d get this chance,” Jelly Roll shared. “I remember being in a tiny cell, feeling like the only things I had were a Bible and a small radio. I believed in the power of those things to change my life and that music, along with God, could make a difference. I want to emphasize, Jesus is for everyone. He doesn’t belong to just one music label. Jesus is universal, and I think anyone can connect with that message.”

Earlier that night, Jelly Roll also celebrated his first double Grammy win, taking home awards for Best Country Duo/Group Performance (alongside Shabouzi for “Amen”) and Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song for his collaboration with Brandon Lake on “Hard Fight Hallelujah.”

Other nominees for Best Contemporary Country Album included Kelsea Ballerini (Patterns), Tyler Childers (Snipe Hunter), Eric Church (Evangeline vs. the Machine), and Miranda Lambert (Postcards from Texas). Beautiful Broken, which came out in 2024, featured the chart-topping singles “I Am Not Okay,” “Liar,” and “Heart of Stone.”

On the same night, other country artists also took home Grammys. Zach Topp won for Best Traditional Country Album with “Ain’t in It for My Health,” Chris Stapleton received an award for Best Country Solo Performance for “Bad As I Used to Be” from the F1 Movie Soundtrack, and Tyler Childers won for Best Country Song with “Bitin’ List.”
